    Police prosecute bank workers for stealing N72.5m

    Four workers of First City Monument Bank have appeared before a Tinubu Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing N72.5m belonging to the bank.
    The police said the defendants, Raheem Oshinade, Adeyemi Arishekole, Ademola Adesanya and Taiwo Adebola, committed the crime while they were on duty on June 9, 2014.
    They were arraigned before the magistrate, Mrs. A.O. Awogboro, on two counts of conspiracy and stealing.
    The charges read “That you, Raheem Oshinade, Adeyemi Arishekole, Ademola Adesanya, Taiwo Ademola and others now at large, on the June 9, 2014, during working hours at FCMB Ltd., In the Lagos Magisterial District did conspire with one another to commit felony to wit; stealing and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 409 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2011.
    That you and others now at large on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District did steal the sum of N72.5m property of FCMB Bank and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 285 (1) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria.”

    The accused persons, however, pleaded not guilty to the two counts preferred against them.
    Awogboro granted them bail in the sum of N1m with two responsible sureties each, in like sum.
    In a related development, Afeez Junaidu, 23, who was charged with a count for stealing N6m from the purse of Sterling Bank Plc, was granted bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties each, in the like sum.
    The offence was said to be punishable under Section 285 (7) of the Lagos State Criminal Laws 2011.
    The two cases were adjourned to July 15, 2014 and July 16, 2014 respectively.
